Wall Styles
What wall styles are trending in the latter half of 2021? Let’s explore!

In front of the mural are two yellow chairs with hand crotched tassels at the bottom, and two multicolor striped pillows on the chairs. Between the chairs sits a small white table with a pink lamp.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Blog-Wall-Styles-Mural-Photo-by-Jon-Day.jpg)
Wall murals – woven or painted – are a creative way to decorate your walls, distinct from just hanging art like anyone else does. Above is La Passion de Diego by Elitis, a woven mural celebrating Frida Kahlo.

The front half of a zebra appears to leap from the back of the door, a birdcage hung on the wall holds a sculpture, pair of women's shoes, and perfume bottles on 3 levels used as shelves, sat upon a wooden console table with a wild cat sculpture next to magazine racks. Nearby, a hot pink chaise long is draped with an orange faux fur blanket and topped with a drinks server with cocktail glasses and a liquor bottle. On the floor, a bright green rug is layered with a black and white faux big cat skin, while a moss-green velvet chair nearby is draped with a black and white spotted shirt.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Blog-Wall-Trends-Maximalism-photo-by-James-Merrel.jpg)
Maximalism is combining an eclectic mix of patterns in different scales plus 1-2 common grounding tones to harmonize. More is better!

A white side table sits next to a bed upholstered in tiny black-and-white checks. 3 pillows in varying sizes and shapes have black and white checks, grey stripes, and mustard-yellow patterning, respectively. A mustard-yellow footstool sits at the end of the bed, draped with a grey and white blanket and a couple of books.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Blog-Wall-Styles-Stripes-and-checks-photo-by-Simon-Bevon-Tall.jpg)

Green wall color in bedrooms, kitchens, and dining rooms is really hot right now. This San Francisco dining room features a grey-green complemented by the natural cedar wood table, which I custom-designed for the room using a piece of off-cut wood found in the client’s garage.

Textured walls – very popular right now – can be 3D-printed, tiled, wallpapered, peel and stick, or custom-created by a wall artist for a unique look and feel.
