Flooring Faves

Flooring can really make or break a room. It’s one of the biggest pieces of real estate in a space, so getting it right is crucial, not only to the look and feel but also the use and maintenance. Here are some of my favorite flooring installations for clients.

A beautiful grey-blue, black, and white geometric patterned floor perfectly complements the vanity’s color, and tones with the wall paint in this petite powder room. We used a different geometric tile on the wall as a backsplash, and clear handles on the vanity’s furniture-like drawers. The framed French artwork ties it all together – trés chic! But it’s the floor that stands out here.

I just love a penny tile, and this kitchen is a great space to use this shape, but in this case, the tiles are made of cork! Much softer and warmer underfoot than traditional ceramic penny tiles. Light and airy colors of white and beige are contrasted by the dark grey countertops and the built-in dark wooden cutting board surface. A closer view of the cutting board illustrates how dramatic those small penny tiles can be.

This unfinished child’s bathroom features fun and funky Moroccan-inspired tiled flooring that kids will love! Notice the white tiled wall niche contrasting with the shower’s grey subway tiling. The glass shower door is the final piece yet to be installed to complete the space. I can see my client’s children actually wanting to take a bath in this cool space.

My client wanted some color in her city apartment, so we used this bright pink, purple, and fuscia rug with a yellow center to make a really big statement. Now it’s fresh, modern, and fun!

Imagine entering this bathroom on a sleepy morning and being woken up by the brightly colored patterned flooring! The repeating geometric shapes provide a sense of rhythm while the green shower niche inset tones with the flooring color, making the space feel coordinated. Leaving the rest of the bathroom in crisp white keeps it from being overwhelming.
