Sophisticated Living Room
Continuing on with the new project from the previous post, I’m especially excited to share the living room with you.
![A living room where ceilings and walls are all white. Tan-colored wood flooring. Grey sofa and chaise long beside an oval coffee table and light colored side table. A greige aka grey-toned beige color chair creates a conversation space, underneath a modern chandelier that echoes the shapes of the arched windows. To the right and in the background is a formal dining space, near a set of french doors.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Blog-Sophisticated-Living-Room-Sofa-Dining-580x387.jpg)
I’m really enjoying working on rooms with more furniture recently. Kitchens and baths have their place in my heart, too, but I especially love creating a sensorial space with textural finishes and a restrained color palette on fabrics and flooring, something that’s easily expressed through furnishings.
![Facing the other direction in the same living room space, we see the sofa from the back, facing the TV, media center, and shelving full of books. A fireplace is visible at the left wall angled towards the viewer. A light brown wood flooring has geometric patterns, and a rug with diamond patterns anchors the seating area.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Sophisticated-Living-Room-580x387.jpg)
One of my most favorite features of this room is the chandelier. It imitates the shape of the molding on the arched windows and ties in traditional style with this family’s modern sensibilities.

A television hangs on the wall in the center. The greige chair is to the right, with the white-topped coffee table in front of it, on top of the diamond-shape patterned rug in grey and peach.](https://kimballstarr.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Kimball-Starr-Interior-Design_Blog-Sophisticated-Living-Room-Custom-Cabinetry-580x387.jpg)
Another great touch is the built-ins. This family really loves books. You could also display sculptures, framed art, or a treasured collection and it all looks neat and pulled together contained on these elegant shelves.

The drawers below and the side cabinets contain home electronics, games, and media, a satisfying balance of display and conceal in stylish living room storage for a modern family.
